Colombo, June 2017: Celebrating World Environment Day 2017 (WED), Mount Lavinia Hotel (MLH) implemented several CSR initiatives with the aim of “Connecting you with Nature.” One such effort was a public awareness campaign focusing on timely topics covering the importance of protecting the environment, proper garbage disposal methods as well as dengue prevention. A street drama highlighting these areas was held at the hotel premises for the staff and also at the much frequented Fort Railway Station. The initiative was endorsed by the Provincial Health Department – Ratmalana, National Dengue Control Unit and was presented by the Southern Lanka Training Institute of Performing Arts. In addition, MLH also distributed seeds among the public at the Fort Railway Station, with the aim of encouraging people to plant a seed. Both these initiatives were well received by the public.

MLH has given prominence to its ‘Go Green’ policies over the years, and this year the Hotel also took steps to plant trees in an around the hotel premises, where the initiative was joined by staff and guests. MLH also introduced reusable bags to its hotel staff, highlighting the need to avoid the use of polythene bags. WED 2017 was marked under the theme “Connecting people to Nature”, and MLH believes the initiatives implemented to mark the day are sustainable green initiatives that will benefit both the nature and people in the long-run.
